Two Year Anniversary of Marriage Equality!

It's hard to believe that two years have already gone by since same sex couples in Massachusetts have enjoyed the right to marry.

In this time, Massachusetts residents have settled into a routine of normalcy around it. The world has not ended. The apocalypse is not upon us. Celebrating love has brought more into the state than legislating hate would have, and, I'm sure that wedding vendors in the Commonwealth aren't complaining either!

Across the country, the GLBT community and its friends watched in disbelief, however, as state after state rolled out proposals for Constitutional Amendments and attempted to enact other legislation which would limit the rights of same sex couples.

Meanwhile, it has also come to pass that limits have been enacted in Massachusetts, limiting the opportunities for most out-of-state couples to travel to Massachusetts in search of a legal marriage license.

So we still have a long way to go.

Those of you who have followed the story of the founding of this business know how strongly my straight mom, the company's founder, feels about this. Recently, she lobbied on the Hill and spoke quite strongly about her thoughts on this to a representative from a conservative member's office:

It's not right, she said, as she encouraged the representative to consider his stance on the matter of marriage equality in Texas. "We all know how this is going to turn out. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when."

Happy Anniversary, Massachusetts! We salute you!
