The Texas Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment: Too Much of a Bad Thing

NoNonsenseLG.jpgIt's about time we weighed in on this. We are, after all, headquartered in Dallas, TX. Have you heard about it? Heard that Texas doesn't already discriminate enough against same-sex couples? There are already laws on the books prohibiting same-sex marriage and yet opponents to equal rights say that a constitutional amendment is necessary.

According to a recent New York Times article,"the amendment provides 'that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman.' It also bars 'this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage.'"

I guess everything really is big in Texas and this effort is no different. If it passes, it will be a big set back to Americans who happen to be gay and lesbian.

Fourteen states have already added Constituational Amendments. Will Texas be the next?

That depends, according to the NY Times article, on the turn-out. A low turn-out will favor those who support the Amendment. I big turn-out will favor opponents of the Amendment.

Sounds to me like it's time to get involved and learn more about Proposition 2 and then get to the polls.

We, at TwoBrides.com & TwGrooms.com, favor same-sex marriage rights and thus encourage everyone we meet to OPPOSE discriminatory amendments like Proposition 2 and vote in favor of equal marriage rights whenever possible.
